  • How to tell if the case and bracelet is solid 18k gold or gold plated?

I just bought a vintage De Ville from ebay. The seller claimed that the case and gold / steel bracelet is in solid 18k gold. I saw from another seller, an identical watch also stated it is solid 18k gold. Later there are another 2 same models from 2 other sellers said it is gold plated. Wondered does Omega watch has different version of material on one model? Is there a place in Singapore that can help verify?

gold cap, gold plated, gold laminated watches in the 60/70's were quite popular. there is a possibility that Omega Deville made both versions then, like you pointed out. if its solid 18k gold, there would be a gold hallmark stamp somewhere at the back pf the case and bracelet. if it does not, its plated. to verify if its real gold, bring to traditional jewellery shop, pawn shop and cash converters to see if they are prepared to help you do the basic test. to determine if its 18k gold (725), it would probably cost you more then the watch.
